Stand with Ruth López: Justice and Human Rights in El Salvador
Ruth López, a respected lawyer and human rights defender, has been imprisoned in El Salvador for over a year without trial, facing spurious charges for her fearless work exposing corruption and abuse of power.
As head of Cristosal’s Anti-Corruption Unit, Ruth led investigations into state surveillance, misuse of public funds, and the conditions of prisons holding deported migrants. Her advocacy made her a powerful voice for transparency and a target of political persecution.
Cristosal’s research has documented hundreds of cases of political persecution between 2019 and 2025, highlighting the growing threats faced by human rights defenders under the Bukele administration. Despite these challenges, Cristosal continues to work tirelessly to support affected communities and demand accountability.
We stand in solidarity with Ruth, Cristosal, and all human rights defenders in El Salvador. Through sharing her story, we hope to raise awareness, amplify calls for justice, and show the power of international solidarity.
